Movie Review-Inception

I enjoyed the film but there were numerous moments that I had to really think to get what was going on, I guess that makes sense since it is about the human subconcious which is obviously not a very simple subject.  I did enjoy Leonardo Dicaprios part and thought he played it brilliantly.  A bit long, but the time was needed in order to fully absorb into the movie.

Rhetorical Analysis

The article from our reading Rhetorical Analysis taught me alot of new things about rhetoric and rhetoric analysis.  Through this type of reading and analysis one can become a more observant and better thinker.  Rhetorical analysis involves pulling apart a type of literature or advertisment and expressing what you think about it in words.
This type of analysis will be very useful in our next project in which we will have to examine a commercial and look at it piece by piece.

Evaluations

The latest assigned readings were out of our How to Write Anything Book on pages 102-118.  These pages focused on the evaluation of written work.  After reading this I picked up a couple of very helpful hints.  Evaluation involves not only offering opinions and advice, but also establishing criteria and evidence for this criteria that you are going to be making your opinions off of.  While writing evaluations I also learned that it is very important to stick to a topic and not digress from it so that you will not confuse or offend your reader.  Evaluations are only opinions so they are not suppose to be right or wrong, just helpful pieces of advice that can be used either to benefit from or just ignore. I really appreciate it when teachers take the time to evaluate my papers and write notes on them, they are trying to me help me further improve my skills and techniques.  Evaluations should not be taken offensively they should be take as constructive criticism.

The Devil Wears Prada Opening Scene Review

The opening scene of The Devil Wears Prada gives a glimpse into the stylish posh life of a few New York City females getting ready in the morning to head off to work. The scene shows the contrast of these stylish posh women to that of the everyday girl, Ann Hathaway, getting ready and not focusing/caring much on her appearance.  This opening scene sets the tone for the rest of the movie, its all about women and they are all about fashion.  The opening scene also shows various shots of New York City, however most of these shots do not make NYC seem like a friendly place, they depict NYC as a daunting place only for those who are willing to face it with their heads held high.  The opening scene does a good job in introducing the main character as who she is, while foreshadowing much of the action that is going to pan out as the movie unravels and she becomes wrapped up in the same idealistic notions of beauty and fashion introduced by the stylish women in the first scene.

A twisted world respoonse

This was a humorous article.  I fully agree with everything that it states would happen if celebrities were to run our country.  This article shows much of what we value in this country, and that is ourselves.  We could care less about politics because we just want for the most part to be entertained.  We idolize the rich and famous because we want to be like them.  It is all about how much you have and what you look like, and how popular you are.  This in my opinion is what has brought this country to political and economic turmoil.  Do not get me wrong I like President Obama, however I feel he has tried to become a superstar celebrity.  He's appeared on various magazine covers, and numerous television programs including ESPN and even Oprah.  This may be an attempt to try and indear himself to the American people, make them feel as if he is just like them, however he is not.  Obama is the president of the United States, he should stop trying so hard to be a celebrity and stick to running the country.

Brainstorming

For the first project in English-101 we were asked to write about how we became the reader and writer that we are today.  I think to show how I evolved into the literate person I am today I will display it visually through the use of a collage showing my life chronologically.  This project is rather personal for me, because a lot of how I became the reader and writer I am today was the direct result of the love and support I get from my family.  Im going to use pictures of me as a child with my family to begin my visual story. My parents and grandparents always read to me when I was a baby and toddler.  I think reading to kids from a very young age is crucial. Reading to kids when they are little, although they can often get annoying about it, really helps them to develop their vocabulary and I also think it helps them recognize words faster which ultimately is beneficial to them when they are beginning to read because they are faster to recognize words. I also plan to incorporate my never-ending interest in sports.  I have played sports for basically my entire life and they have had an enourmous impact on my life.  I might also incorporate a small piece about how when I was a kid I read every single book I could get my hands on about dinosaurs.  I'm not sure what else to include, but these aspects are a solid building block for my first project.
